If I Could Turn Back Time

Blogtember:
A memory you would love to relive.

When I was little,
as in pre double digits,
birthday parties were a big deal

Today, the trend is "themed" birthday parties
which I would totally do
but my birthday parties never had a theme
and they were still fun.

I would love to relive:

Every single one of the birthday cakes
my grandma made to my liking

Presents wrapped in "funnies"

Two of my aunts getting worked up
because they gave me the same birthday card,
This happened for many birthdays.
somehow

My other aunt in charge of the the present boxes,
talking like the ring leader of a circus,
holding a toy hammer,
and asking you to pick whats under
box 1, box 2, or box 3.
It was a  really had choice,
even though they all had gifts under them.

Hiding from my uncles video camera
that repeatedly he would tell me was off.
Even though it was in aimed at me-
and the light was flashing,

Picking out what piece of cake I wanted.
Another big deal.
Corner with lots of frosting,
or a piece with a frosting flower or decal on it.

  2. Love these memories! : ) It's the small things. And I am SO sentimental about holidays - they're just all about those funny family traditions that only happen once a year (or once in a lifetime), that you just cherish and can't let go of!

    1. I agree with you completely! It's also so fun to compare past holidays and see how everyone has changed!

  3. that's hilarious about your aunts picking the same card!! I also remember as a child always wanting the piece of cake with as much icing as possible. Not so much as an adult!!
sounds like you have an amazing family!
